The Jedi Council Forums people put it so perfectly: “Warning: This thread is addictive. Forever it will dominate your destiny. Consume you, it will.” SO true. This is the costume I really didn’t have time to do but I did it anyway. Probably my all-time favorite costume from Star Wars. The costume that drove me insane and infuriated me and made me so happy all at the same time. Welcome to the crazy brain of a mad costumer!
Honestly, I don’t really know when I officially decided to try the Padmé Amidala Meadow Picnic costume from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. At some point I randomly stumbled across the awesome costuming website Padawan’s Guide and was browsing around and saw the page about the picnic costume. And I wished I’d eventually have the time and/or money to make a decent version of it. And sometime later I apparently just decided to try the easy parts first (the hairnets and headband, to be exact) and BOOM. A lifelong addiction began.
For those not familiar with the Padmé meadow picnic costume, it has been obsessively researched by people on the Jedi Council Forums (which I sadly didn’t read much of until I was almost done with the costume) and Padawan’s Guide (which was the basis for my research). The costume is made of a Renaissance-y but sci-fi-ish looking gold silk blouse and skirt, an intricately embroidered corset and a flowy embroidered long shawl/short cape. The hairstyle is very iconic- a green flowered headband across the forehead, two buns on either side covered with gold crocheted hairnets (referred to as snoods) and a messy bun and curly ponytail in the back.
